Moona Pennanen
Moona Pennanen has studied moving image and printmaking at the Academy of Fine Arts and earned a Master’s degree in documentary film directing from Aalto University. Her graduation film, The Land That Rises and Falls (2021), premiered at the prestigious Visions du Réel film festival in Switzerland. In 2022, she participated in the Spring Academy workshop at the Locarno Film Festival, mentored by Michelangelo Frammartino, where a short film was created. Her latest short film, All the Light That Remains, produced by Illume with support from the Finnish Film Foundation, AVEK, and YLE, is set to premiere in spring 2025.
In addition to her filmmaking, Moona has been involved in organizing the SOLA festival for experimental film and music since 2017. She has contributed film writings to publications such as niin & näin and Kaltio and attended the Baltic Analog Film Lab’s Spring School for experimental film in Riga in 2024.
