Afterwar, directed by Birgitte Stærmose, has been selected to Berlinale’s Panorama section. The film is a co-production between Denmark, Kosovo, Sweden and Finland, and it received production support from the Finnish Film Foundation. Not a traditional fiction or documentary film, it was made over 15 years in co-creation with the lead characters, survivors of the Kosovo War.
The Finnish co-producers are Mark Lwoff and Misha Jaari for Bufo, with Finland handling some of the post-production including color grading and VFX.
European Film Market, February 15–21, 2024
Finnish Film Foundation joins the European Film Market (EFM) as part of Scandinavian Films. We are located in our usual spot at the Gropius Bau (Niederkirchnerstraße 7).
This year, we have also supported Fiction ToolBox, EFM’s program for inclusion and diversity, together with Academy of Moving People & Images (AMPI). Filmmaker Roxana Sadvokassova will take part in the program with her feature project Prodigal Daughter. This is the third time AMPI collaborates with ToolBox.
Four Finnish films have market screenings during EFM:
- Death Is a Problem for the Living by Teemu Nikki, sales: Attraction Distribution
- The Missile by Miia Tervo, sales: Picture Tree International
- Snot & Splash by Teemu Nikki, sales: FilmSharks
- Stormskerry Maja by Tiina Lymi, sales: Picture Tree International
There are two events at the market highlighting Finnish talents:
- Nordic Film Music Days hosts a discussion on Friday, Feb 16, 14:00–15:30, titled ”Music & Movies: the Value of the Score”. The Finnish panelist is composer Pessi Levanto, nominated for the Nordic film music award Harpa.
- Audiovisual Producers Finland – APFI hosts a Focus on Finland event at the Series Market on Monday, Feb 19, 15–15:45, titled “Cold Cases & Hot Flashes – The Rise of Crime and Relationship Dramas in Challenging Times”.
