Fallen Leaves on the European Film Awards shortlist

Aki Kaurismäki’s Fallen Leaves is among the films eligible for European Film Awards this year.

The first list includes 19 feature films which have premiered between June 1, 2022 and May 31, 2023. The European Film Academy will list more films, including documentaries, during the fall, and the nominations will be announced on November 7. The European Film Awards will be given in Berlin on December 9, 2023.

Previous EFA nominated films from Aki Kaurismäki include The Other Side of Hope (2017), Le Havre (2011), The Man Without a Past (2002), La Vie de Bohème (1992) and The Match Factory Girl (1990). In 1992, Matti Pellonpää won the European Film Awards for best male lead for his role in La Vie de Bohème.

Fallen Leaves premiered in May in Cannes where it won the Prix de Jury. It has since been selected to film festivals in Karlovy Vary, Sydney, Toronto and New York, among others. The domestic premiere is on September 15, 2023.
