Fallen Leaves on the Academy Awards’ shortlist
Five of the 15 films on the International Feature Film shortlist will be nominated for an Oscar on January 23, 2024.

Fallen Leaves, written and directed by Aki Kaurismäki, is on the Academy Award shortlist for International Feature Film. This year, 88 films in total were submitted in the category.
The five nominees will be announced on January 23, 2024, and the Oscar gala is hosted on Sunday, March 10, 2024 (early on Monday morning Jan 11 Finnish time).
Previously shortlisted Finnish films include The Fencer (2015) by Klaus Härö and Compartment no 6 (2021) by Juho Kuosmanen. The only Finnish nominee in the category is The Man Without a Past by Aki Kaurismäki which competed in the Oscars in 2003. Do I Have to Take Care of Everything?, directed by Selma Vilhunen, was nominated in the live-action short film category in 2014.
Fallen Leaves is currently also nominated for two Golden Globes, in the categories of Non-English Language Best Picture and Best Female Actor in Motion Picture Musical/Comedy (Alma Pöysti).
Fallen Leaves is produced by Sputnik and Bufo, distributed in Finland by B-Plan Distribution and sold internationally by The Match Factory. The domestic admissions total already over 238,000, making it the most watched Finnish film of the year.
