The Helsinki Effect and The Last Misfits by the Golden River to compete in CPH:DOX

The Danish documentary film festival takes place March 19–30, 2025, in Copenhagen.
The Helsinki Effect
The Helsinki Effect, directed by Arthur Franck, is one of the 12 films selected to the main competition DOX:AWARD. It is an all-archival essay documentary that explores the power narratives and myths of the Cold War era, specifically the Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe that took place in Europe in 1975.
The Helsinki Effect is also part of EUROPE! On Demand, a project by the European Film Promotion and CPH:DOX. The festival has handpicked seven European documentary films from its programme to be screened online for North American buyers and distributors.
The film is produced by Franck and Sandra Enkvist for Polygraf and it is sold internationally by Rise and Shine.
The Last Misfits by the Golden River
The Last Misfits by the Golden River, directed by Juho-Pekka Tanskanen, is in the NORDIC:DOX Competition, along with 10 other Nordic documentary features. It follows the fates of a 150-year-old gold prospector community in the distant Lapland wilderness, beyond telephone networks. Their peaceful life comes to an end when a new law forces them to abandon their way of living.
The Last Misfits by the Golden River is produced by Isabella Karhu for Danish Bear Productions.
Minority co-production in Backstory
There is also a minority co-production supported by the Finnish Film Foundation in the CPH:DOX programme: Israel Palestine on Swedish TV 1958–1989, directed by Göran Hugo Olsson, is screening in the Backstory section. The Swedish film premiered in Venice last fall. The Finnish co-producers are Miia Haavisto and Marja Pihlaja for Tekele Productions.
