Several Finnish films at Camerimage in Poland

The 27th Camerimage in Torun, Poland, is one of the seminal film festivals focusing on the art of cinematography. The festival takes place November 9–16.

The festival will screen Dogs Don’t Wear Pants by J-P Valkeapää. The cinematographer of the film is Pietari Peltola who worked with Valkeapää already in his previous film They Have Escaped. Dogs Don’t Wear Pants premiered in Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes and will have its domestic premiere November 1st.

Competing in the feature documentary section is The Magic Life of V by Tonislav Hristov. The film is shot by Alexander Stanishev from Bulgaria. The film premiered in Sundance and has traveled widely to festivals.

Nina Forsman’s film Reflecting Ice was selected to the short documentary competition. The film tells about a figure skating pair who are about to leave their career. The cinematographer is Hannu Käki.

Finnish filmmaker Jojo Erholtz’s short film My War, shot by Leonel Escobar, will compete in the student film section. The film was made during Erholtz’s studies at the American Film Institute Conservatory.

Camerimage will also screen a retrospective of Peter Greenaway’s work. Eisenstein in Guanajuato (2015) was a Finnish minority co-production, co-produced by Edith Film and featuring Elmer Bäck in the title role.
