Finnish Documentary Film Festival

Finnish Documentary Film Festival

26th–28th March 2012, Evald Cinema, Prague

The Scandinavian House presents a unique festival of the contemporary Finnish documentary film, which will be held from 26th to 28th March 2012 in Evald Cinema in Prague. During these the three festival days, a total of 15 films will be screened, including short as well as full-length movies. None of them has been presented in the Czech Republic so far.

The programme offers films by award winning directors as well as experimental works by little-known artists. All the films have been made during the last few years. They document modern Finland with its specialities, problems, absurdities and peculiar poetics both in serious and humorous light. The common themes of the films are family life, relationships and fates of children on the threshold of the new millennium, the clash between remote lands and demands of modern civilisation, and sport as a passion, hobby, social activity as well as a metaphor for human life.

The festival visitors should not miss the film Forever Yours focusing on children in foster care, which won the Jussi award for the best Finnish documentary film in 2012. We also highly recommend an exceptional film called Reindeerspotting – Escape from Santaland that offers a unique and authentic view to the world of drug addicts in Rovaniemi, Lapland.

Besides the documentaries, meetings with the Finnish directors Mia Halme, Tuija Halttunen and Aimo Hyvärinen and a lecture on contemporary Finnish documentary films given by professor Iikka Vehkalahti from the University of Tampere, will be held as the festival accompanying events.

All the films will be screened in Finnish with Czech subtitles.
