Old mining village’s ghosts of the past emerge when Ukrainian seasonal worker Oleksandr arrives to work in Mätäsvaara. All the Light That Remains is a hybrid documentary that explores the traces of war left on people and places. With a new mining project on the horizon, the film delves into how conflicts continue to haunt the landscape and its people.

Moona Pennanen
Moona Pennanen has studied moving image and printmaking at the Academy of Fine Arts and earned a Master’s degree in documentary film directing from Aalto University. Her graduation film, The Land That Rises and Falls (2021), premiered at the prestigious Visions du Réel film festival in Switzerland. In 2022, she participated in the Spring Academy workshop at the Locarno Film Festival, mentored by Michelangelo Frammartino, where a short film was created. Her latest short film, All the Light That Remains, produced by Illume with support from the Finnish Film Foundation, AVEK, and YLE, is set to premiere in spring 2025.
